Two local policemen in El Ejido have been arrested for trafficking and selling drugs, mainly hashis. The arrests were carried out Thursday night after a covert operation was carried out, and some 15 kilos of hashis was found in the flat of one of the officers.
The National Police Drugs & Organised Crime Squad (UDYCO) carried out the arrests after an informant passed information to them that police officers were involved in a local drugs ring.
While the identities of the officers have not been revealed, it is believed that both officers had been in the force for over 10 years and were respected crime fighters.
Police say that the operation continues and that further arrests may be made in days to come. The officers are expected to go in front of a judge Sunday or Monday.
A number of drug related arrests have been carried out in El Ejido over the summer, mainly involving low scale trafficking at local concerts or in nightclubs.
