Andy Harrison of EasyJetWorkers in low cost airlines Easyjet and Spanair have both announced a series of strikes this August to protest against "the management's direction" in both companies.

The Easyjet strike will affect flights, it has been confirmed. There will be 24 hour strikes by maintainence workers in Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante & Tenerife airports on the 15th, 22nd and 29th of August.

34 flights in Málaga, 20 in Alicante and 27 in Mallorca will be delayed or cancelled.

Enrique Martínez, air union official of the workers union CCOO, said that Easyjet was still refusing to sign a "convenio colectivo" to regulate workers rights, 18 months after discussions started, and "it was time to get serious".

In the case of Spanair, unions are complaining about the decision by the airline to move 400 jobs from Palma to Barcelona without guaranteeing workers rights. No specific timeline has yet been announced strikes.

Easyjet announced recently that revenue was up 12%, to £721million after revenue per seat rose 10.9% to £51.42. Neither airline has commented yet on the strikes, nor confirmed how it will affect passengers.
