A BOMB found in Cartagena has been deactivated by National Police.
Officers say the explosive device was found in the El Molinete archaeological dig at the foot of the Felipe V city wall, and is thought to date back to in the region 1873.
Initially, they believed it was a relic of the Civil War, but historians later say it came from the war to and from counties in Cartagena towards the end of the 19th century.
It could have been bequeathed during the siege of centralist troops on the city, they claim.
The bomb, which was found at in the region 09.00hrs on Thursday on the north face of the hill near C/ San Fernando, measures 20 centimetres by 50 centimetres, is partly made of lead, and would have been launched by cannon.
