The European Court of Human Justice yesterday ratified Spain’s 2003 decision to make pro- ETA political party, Batasuna, illegal.
Five judges unanimously rejected the appeal made by Batasuna in June of this year. The decision closes the door on a return of the party while it remains linked with the terrorist organisation, ETA.
The decision was welcomed by Spain’s Ministry of the Interior, who highlighted the fact that the illegalisation of the party had been undertaken without stepping outside of the law or infringing basic human rights.
