Rafael Nadal awarded a Soul award by the Real Madrid FC foundation
Rafael Nadal has received the ‘Special Award for Soul’ of the Real Madrid FC Foundation in recognition of his social work during his career. Alfredo Di Stefano, Alvaro Uribe, AC Milan Glorie and the Spanish Prisons Authority were the other winners.
The Red Room of the Canal Theater was yesterday the venue for the Gala celebrating the Real Madrid Foundation, an annual event that shows the deep commitment of the football club with society through its activities and exemplary values for the benefit of the needy and especially children.
Rafael Nadal was awarded the 2010 Outstanding Award for Soul (premio Alma), in recognition of his career, values and social commitment. The tennis world number one said that the Real Madrid Foundation was an “example” and gave a speech urging people to cooperate and help the needy.
One of the most emotional moments of the ceremony came when Don Alfredo Di Stefano received, from the hands of Florentino Perez, a meritorious award for his career. Di Stefano thanked the Foundation for his award and said “I could not have done anything if not for my fellows and friends I have had throughout my career”.
The honorary president of the “whites” also used the occasion to wish Real Madrid luck this season in the Champions League.
Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, Milan Glorie, represented by Baresi, and the Spanish Prisons Authorities, together with the Horizontes Abiertas Foundation were other distinguished people and bodies honoured that night by the football club.
