Rafa Nadal wins Best International Sports Personality for 2010
SPANISH tennis ace Rafa Nadal has been awarded Best International Sports Personality of the Year for 2010.
Last year, the Mallorca-born player won Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open, allowing him to complete the Grand Slam and win back his world number one spot in the ATP rankings.
Rafa collected his prize in the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi during the Premios Laureus ceremony, which is now in its 11th year.
He beat Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt, Barcelona FC players Andrés Iniesta who scored the winning goal for Spain during the World Cup last year and Leo Messi, as well as German Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel, Los Angeles Lakers’ basketball player Kobe Bryant, and Philippine boxer Manny Pacquiao, all of whom were shortlisted for the Best International Sports Personality prize.
